Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended warm congratulations to African countries and their citizens on the occasion of the 38th African Union (AU) Summit. In a message delivered on Saturday, Xi commended Africa’s growing global influence and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the continent.

President Xi acknowledged the complex and intertwined international landscape but highlighted the remarkable growth of the Global South, with China and Africa playing pivotal roles.

“Over the past year, the AU has united and led African countries in vigorously advancing integration, actively responding to regional and global challenges, and speaking in unison as the ‘voice of Africa’,” Xi stated.

He praised Africa’s continuous rise in international prominence, attributing it to the continent’s resilience and proactive engagement in global affairs. Xi expressed his best wishes for Africa’s continued success on the path of independence, self-reliance, and sustainable development.

Reflecting on the progress of China-Africa relations, Xi noted that 2024 marked a significant year for the partnership. He cited the achievements of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which ushered in a new era of collaboration toward building an all-weather community with a shared future.

Xi reiterated China’s readiness to work closely with African leaders to implement the six proposals for modernization and the 10 partnership actions outlined during the summit. These initiatives, he said, are designed to deliver tangible benefits to over 2.8 billion Chinese and African citizens.

The AU Summit, a key platform for discussing Africa’s developmental priorities, continues to underscore the importance of international partnerships in driving the continent’s growth and stability. China, through its long-standing relationship with Africa, remains a significant ally in these efforts.
