U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered all American flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Pope Francis, who passed away recently.
In a solemn tribute shared via his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump expressed his condolences, writing, “Rest in Peace, Pope Francis! May God bless him and all who loved him!”
Describing the pontiff as “a good man who worked so hard and loved the world,” Trump said he had signed an executive order mandating the nationwide tribute.
“As a mark of respect for the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government… until sunset on the day of interment,” the statement read.
The directive extends to all U.S. embassies, consulates, and military installations across the globe.
The gesture comes as part of a global outpouring of grief and reflection on the legacy of Pope Francis, whose leadership of the Catholic Church was marked by compassion, humility, and a strong voice for social justice.
Details regarding funeral arrangements and interment are expected to be announced by the Vatican in the coming days.
