President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Enugu State on Saturday, describing the occasion as a “homecoming” and a demonstration of the unity and potential within Nigeria. During his one-day visit, the President emphasized the importance of national unity across political, ethnic, and religious divides, calling for collective efforts to build a prosperous future for Nigeria.

“It is a great turn-up for me to be in Enugu. It is a joy and I feel relaxed and at home with you,” President Tinubu remarked. He spoke of Nigeria as one family with different rooms in the same house, urging for the country’s growth to cater to both present and future generations.

The President also lauded Governor Peter Mbah for his outstanding leadership and progressive initiatives aimed at fostering long-term development in Enugu State. He highlighted the Governor’s efforts in enhancing security infrastructure and boosting socio-economic growth. “When we have committed leaders like Mbah taking Enugu on the path of 21st-century development, to greater heights, building our tomorrow today,” Tinubu noted.

Governor Mbah, in turn, outlined his administration’s efforts to drive Enugu State’s economic growth, targeting a dramatic increase in the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in the next four to eight years. The Governor emphasized the role of security, education, and infrastructure investments in achieving this vision, citing the state’s AI-enhanced security initiative, which includes a round-the-clock CCTV surveillance network. This system is managed through the newly inaugurated Command and Control Centre.

Mbah also highlighted the completion of 30 Enugu Smart Green Schools, part of a larger initiative to construct 260 schools across the state. Other projects inaugurated by President Tinubu included a state-of-the-art Enugu International Conference Centre and the commissioning of 90 urban roads within Enugu City.

In his speech, President Tinubu urged the private sector to take a more active role in governance, advocating for more business leaders to engage in politics to inject their expertise into public service. He also reiterated the importance of creating an environment of security and stability to encourage investment.

The President’s visit underscored the growing partnership between the federal government and Enugu State, reinforcing the vision of a secure, thriving, and united Nigeria.
