President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her recent victory at the 67th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Tems clinched the award for Best African Music Performance with her song Love Me JeJe, surpassing strong contenders including Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy. This marks her second Grammy win.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Tems for her unique artistry and global impact.

“On behalf of the entire nation, President Tinubu commends the singer for her unique artistry, which has brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage for the second time,” the statement read.

The President also acknowledged the broader success of Nigerian artists in shaping the global music industry, particularly through Afrobeats.

“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, the Nigerian music industry, particularly Afrobeats, has become a source of national pride, promoting a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across borders,” Tinubu stated.

He further extended his congratulations to other Nigerian artists nominated for the Grammy Awards, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy, describing them as patriots and role models for young people.

“The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion. I wish you all continued success in your musical careers,” the statement concluded.

Nigeria’s music industry continues to gain global recognition, with its artists playing a pivotal role in shaping contemporary music and cultural narratives worldwide.
