The Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police Force, Olatunji Disu has been elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police. He was one of the 32 other senior officers who were interviewed by the Police Service Commission on Tuesday.
Sources close to the Commission revealed that Disu came out successfully.
Others promoted include Zubairu Abubakar, Godwin Eze, Clement Robert, Patrick Atayero, Nwonyi Emeka, Musibau Ajani, Tolani Alausa, and Abubakar Aliyu. Others are Zakaria Sanda, Audu Dabigi, Hayatu Ali, Garba Ahmed, Fasuba Akinyele, Emuobo Ekokotu, Gyogon Grimah, Olaiya Mobolaji, Chukwudi, and Chris Obaemi Adesanya.
Disu was born in Lagos Island on April 13, 1966. He attended Holy Cross Cathedral primary school and completed his primary school education at Mayflower Junior School in Ikenne, Ogun State in 1979. He also went on to Pobuna Secondary Grammar School in Epe, and St Gregory’s College, Lagos where he finished his secondary education in 1985.
He later gained admission to study English (Education) at the Lagos State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Education in 1990. He obtained a post-graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University, and a certificate in Personal Protection from the United Kingdom.
Disu holds two master’s degrees in Public Administration and also in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (2010) and Lagos State University (2022) respectively.
He has also attended different professional courses within and outside Nigeria including Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Course at the University of Lagos, amongst others.
Disu is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He took over the command of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) from Abba Kyari on August 2, 2021.
Prior to this, he was Commander, Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) 2015-2021. He was known to have transformed the Squad. RRS is a special security outfit founded and funded by the Lagos State Government and it was created to serve as the metropolitan police to maintain law and order within the metropolis, as well as the nooks and crannies of the state.
As RRS commander, Disu led a pragmatic and revolutionary movement that brought about the training of officers on Emotional Intelligence, Anger Control and Management, and De-escalation of crisis.
