A senior officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector Stephen Enang, has tragically passed away shortly after watching his beloved football club, Arsenal, secure a 3–0 victory over Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The incident occurred late Tuesday evening at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street, Calabar, where the deceased, a known die-hard Arsenal fan, had joined friends and football lovers to watch the highly anticipated match.

Inspector Enang, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, Calabar. Friends described him as soft-spoken, cheerful, and deeply passionate about football.

Speaking to reporters, one of his close associates, who witnessed the incident and asked not to be named, recounted the shocking moment the tragedy unfolded.

“He was in very high spirits throughout the match. Each time Arsenal scored, he leapt with joy. After the third goal, he was still cheering. But when the match ended and everyone began to leave, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up,” the friend said.

The witness explained that Enang had slumped in his seat and was unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical personnel tried to revive him but sadly pronounced him dead.

“It’s unbelievable. He was full of life and energy during the game. No one saw this coming,” the friend added, visibly shaken.

As of the time of filing this report, attempts to reach the Cross River State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, for an official comment were unsuccessful. Calls and messages to her line went unanswered.

The sudden death of Inspector Enang has cast a pall over the police community and football fans in Calabar, leaving many in shock over the heartbreaking loss of a passionate officer and Arsenal devotee.
