The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed, who has been implicated in the robbery of residences near his duty station at the ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.
Sources indicate that Mohammed’s illicit activities were exposed on Sunday. SP William Aya, the Public Relations Officer, briefed journalists on Tuesday, revealing that the officer was linked to a notorious gang of armed robbers targeting household items and cars in the area.
The breakthrough in the case came when a stolen car was found in the workshop of a panel beater named Arome Moses, who was working on changing the vehicle’s color in Ochadamu near Anyigba, in the eastern part of the state.
Local residents, familiar with the car and aware of the robbery that occurred on June 14, 2024, raised the alarm upon seeing the vehicle. The car’s plate number had been switched to an Abuja registration, and a backdated car dealer’s receipt from 2020 was presented by Mohammed as proof of purchase.
Aya explained, “The panel beater had primed the car for a color change before the alarm was raised.”
In response to the alert, officers from the Quick Response Unit were swiftly dispatched, leading to the apprehension of the panel beater. Additionally, a gang member, already wanted by the police for other crimes, confessed and identified Mohammed as the mastermind behind the robbery. He admitted that they were hired to steal the car specifically for the police inspector.
