The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force disrupted local government elections by arresting commission staff on duty across the state.
In a statement shared on OSSIEC’s official X page on Saturday, Abioye commended voters for their resilience in turning out to cast their votes despite the challenges.
He also apologised to media personnel for the commission’s failure to provide accreditation materials, blaming the situation on the police sealing off the OSSIEC headquarters, where the materials were stored.
Abioye further explained that delays at some polling units were due to the arrest of officials responsible for distributing election materials but assured that fresh materials had been dispatched, allowing voting to resume.
“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state,” Abioye stated.
