The Ogun State Police Command arrested 116 suspected cult members in the state’s Ifo area during an alleged initiation and celebration of the Neo-Black Movement’s 20th anniversary.
A breakdown of the suspects revealed that 70 were males and 46 were girls who were caught at a motel in Ifo.
The suspects were apprehended thanks to useful information from members of the public, according to the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu.
Cutlasses, axes, a rifle, ammunition, and banners were among the items confiscated from the accused.
While a 33-year-old father of two who was thought to be the group’s head denied being a member of a cult, a 22-year-old lady said she was invited by a friend and was unaware that the event was a gathering of cultists.
Alamutu advised cultists and other criminal elements to stay away from the state because the command would not tolerate any form of criminality.
The suspects are anticipated to be arraigned in order to decide their guilt or innocence.
