Jos, Nigeria – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has firmly stated that no local government area in the state is under the control of bandits or terrorists, countering reports suggesting otherwise.

The governor made this declaration on Tuesday during a media parley at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos. Addressing journalists, Mutfwang emphasized that although certain local government areas—particularly Riyom, Bokkos, Bassa, and Mangu—have experienced isolated incidents of violence, the overall security situation in the state has significantly improved under his administration.

“Let me state categorically: there is no single local government in Plateau State that is under the control of bandits or terrorists,” the governor asserted. “While we acknowledge the unfortunate incidents in a few areas, it is incorrect to suggest that Plateau is overrun by criminal elements.”

Mutfwang noted that the security challenges confronting Plateau are not unique and stressed that the state remains relatively more stable compared to several others in the region.

“Contrary to the perception being circulated, Plateau is safer than many northern states such as Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Katsina, and Kebbi,” he said.

Reflecting on his administration’s efforts since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Mutfwang disclosed that he established a dedicated security committee tasked with identifying the root causes of unrest and crafting practical solutions. The committee, he said, has been working tirelessly to improve peace and stability across the state.

As part of the government’s renewed security strategy, the governor also announced plans to restructure and strengthen Operation Rainbow, a community-based security outfit, to work in synergy with Operation Safe Haven, the military-led task force currently responsible for maintaining peace in the state.

Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents and investors that Plateau State remains open, safe, and welcoming.
