Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday morning, following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria.
Shettima was joined on the solemn trip by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. They were received in the United Kingdom by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
The vice president’s arrival was confirmed in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.
President Tinubu, in a formal statement on Sunday, announced the passing of his predecessor and immediately directed Vice President Shettima to proceed to the UK to lead Nigeria’s official delegation for the repatriation of Buhari’s body.
The late Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, had previously led the country as a military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
In honor of the former leader’s legacy, President Tinubu has also ordered all national flags to be flown at half-staff across the country.
