Peter Obi’s Brother’s House Demolished: Ohanaeze Demand Justice, Compensation

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has condemned the demolition of a property belonging to the younger brother of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

Mr. Obi had earlier taken to his social media platforms to decry the demolition, stating that it was carried out in Lagos State without any prior notice, court order, or legal justification. He described the act as “the height of lawlessness” and warned that such actions could deter potential investors from coming into the country.

Reacting to the incident, the National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, expressed deep concern and called on the Lagos State Government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the demolition.

“Peter Obi’s aspiration to become president of Nigeria is a genuine and constitutional right,” Okwu said. “We reject a Nigeria where citizens are no longer free to express their political desires and aspirations. Lagos State is not a sovereign entity but part of the Nigerian federation. The absence of a court order or legal notice in this case is deeply troubling.”

Okwu questioned whether Nigeria was degenerating into a “Banana Republic,” where due process and rule of law are ignored.

He further stated, “This is not an issue that should be swept under the carpet. Ndigbo have endured enough injustice in this country, and this incident serves as yet another painful reminder of the systemic marginalization we face.”

The youth leader called on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure that all Nigerians residing or doing business in the state are treated fairly and equitably, irrespective of their ethnic or political affiliations.

“If any citizen violates the law, the appropriate recourse should be through the courts, not through arbitrary actions by the government,” he added. “Justice must be served, and we are demanding adequate compensation for the victim of this unwarranted demolition.”

As public outrage grows, many are now awaiting an official statement from the Lagos State Government to address the concerns raised by Ohanaeze and the wider Nigerian public.
