The Obidient Movement has firmly debunked reports suggesting that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has joined a new political coalition or accepted a running mate offer ahead of 2027.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, clarified that Obi remains a committed member of the Labour Party and has made no move to align with any other political platform.
“Mr. Peter Obi remains in the Labour Party, and if there is ever a change, he will personally make that announcement,” Kazaure stated, addressing a wave of inquiries from concerned LP members following speculative media reports.
She described the publication as “imaginary” and baseless, warning that such falsehoods risk misleading the public and distracting from more pressing national issues.
“While we continue to engage cordially with partners and stakeholders on the future of Nigeria, there is no truth to the claims of Mr. Obi joining a new coalition or being offered a running mate position by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” she said.
Kazaure reaffirmed that Peter Obi’s political mission is focused on uniting Nigerians to fight bad governance, corruption, poverty, poor healthcare, and other critical national challenges—not merely pursuing power for its own sake.
“The Obidient Movement stands for progressive politics that genuinely serves the people,” the statement emphasized, urging the media and the public to avoid sensationalism and instead focus on nation-building.
“At this difficult time, all Nigerians—including the media—should prioritise contributing to a better country,” Kazaure concluded.
