ABUJA — Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the gruesome killing of worshippers in Katsina State, describing the incident as a devastating reminder of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, Obi lamented the tragic scale of the attack, revealing that over 50 bodies had already been recovered as the search continued.
“The tragic news from Katsina has grown even more devastating, as the search continues with over 50 bodies now recovered,” Obi wrote.
He condemned the attack as not just violence against innocent worshippers, but a painful symbol of the country’s deepening security crisis.
“This horrendous act goes beyond an attack on innocent worshippers; it is another painful reminder of the worsening state of insecurity in our nation,” he added.
Obi urged Nigerian leaders to rise above complacency and begin treating such tragedies with the seriousness they deserve, stressing that human lives must never be reduced to mere numbers.
“I repeat that unless we urgently tackle the root causes of insecurity, we will continue to mourn needless losses,” the former presidential candidate declared.
