BAUCHI — Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated a total of N15 million to two educational institutions in Bauchi State — Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School.
Obi, who visited the schools on Friday, gave N10 million to the nursing college and N5 million to the Quranic school, in a gesture aimed at boosting education and healthcare delivery in the state.
Speaking at Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi praised the vital role nurses play in Nigeria’s health sector, describing them as the backbone of patient care.
“You are very important to society and to this country called Nigeria. If there is anything we can do to support what you are doing, we need to do it,” he said. “The number one measure of success of any nation is health, and you can’t measure health without thinking of the human infrastructure. The nurse knows the patient, owns the patient — the nurse is everything.”
Obi revealed that he supports about 70 nursing schools annually as part of his contribution to strengthening Nigeria’s health system.
In their remarks, the proprietors of the two schools, Aminu Danmaliki and Alhaji Usman Abubakar, commended Obi for the donation, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously for the growth and development of the institutions.
