Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in the general election of 2023, deleted a tweet in which he addressed Bola Tinubu as Mr. President who was being paraded around in a 120-car convoy.
Obi, who is contesting Tinubu, the APC candidate, being declared the winner of the poll held on February 25, had earlier criticized the president’s 120-car convoy when he arrived from France in a statement posted on his official Twitter account.
In the since-deleted tweet, Obi stated: “Allegedly showing Mr. President driving with a convoy of roughly 120 cars. Although I haven’t had a chance to watch the aforementioned film, my advice is still the same: leaders at all levels of government must begin making sacrifices for a better Nigeria.”
Later, he took down the tweet and replaced the image of the “120-car convoy of Mr. President” with “a trending motorcade video.”
He stated in the most recent tweet: “Present Nigeria requires that all those who serve and lead must do so by example. Their behavior and their public conduct must align with what society requires today.
“We cannot continue to preach for the people to sacrifice without sacrificing too. The sacrifices must now start from the leaders visibly, and measurably at all times because the people are suffering. We must now be at the forefront of addressing the suffering.”
