PDP Vows Comeback in Abia: Stakeholders Strategize to Reclaim Power in 2027

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia North Senatorial Zone have expressed strong optimism about the party’s chances of reclaiming the governorship seat and dominating the Abia State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections.

At a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area, party leaders from the five council areas of Abia North — Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, Arochukwu, and Umunneochi — emphasized the need for unity and a renewed commitment to the party’s ideals. They unanimously agreed that the PDP remains a formidable force in the state, capable of dislodging Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party at the next polls.

The meeting, which drew top party figures and grassroots leaders, focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of 2027. Local government party chairmen reaffirmed the party’s grassroots strength and reported increased engagement in reconciliation efforts to heal internal rifts.

State PDP Chairman, Elder Amah Abraham, commended the Abia North stakeholders for their unwavering loyalty. He announced that the party would prioritize credibility and public acceptability when selecting candidates in 2027.

“In 2027, we will hand tickets to candidates chosen by the people. That is our path to reclaiming the governorship and securing a majority in the House of Assembly,” Abraham said. “The saboteurs have left our party. Anyone who undermines the PDP again will face the consequences. We are more united, and the PDP is still very strong across all 17 LGAs of Abia State.”

The Abia North Zonal Chairman of the PDP, Chief Gabriel Elendu, echoed this stance, stressing that only credible and electable candidates would emerge on the party’s platform in 2027.

Meanwhile, amidst ongoing defections, notable party figures have pledged to remain and strengthen the PDP. Chief Mandela Obasi, representing Ohafia North in the State Assembly, declared his loyalty to the party and vowed to lead the revival effort in Abia North.

“My people, the Abiriba, are warriors who don’t retreat. I will not defect. I’ll lead the charge to bring PDP back to its winning ways,” Obasi stated.

Similarly, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi, member representing Bende South, reiterated his commitment to the PDP and urged leaders to act in the interest of the people they serve.

Responding to the recent defection of Hon. Lucky Johnson, who represents Isuikwuato State Constituency, stakeholders from Isuikwuato, including PDP Assistant National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, Hon. Emmanuel Okoronkwo, and Chief Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah, dismissed the move as inconsequential.

They maintained that the PDP in Isuikwuato remains intact and even stronger since Johnson’s exit, noting that his departure had energized party loyalists and strengthened internal structures.

As 2027 draws closer, PDP leaders in Abia North are rallying members to remain focused, avoid distractions, and prioritize unity, signaling a determined push to reclaim lost political ground.
