The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially postponed its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, earlier scheduled to hold on May 27, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to a statement released by the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the postponement was necessitated to allow the Reconciliation Committee, led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, to conclude its assignment of resolving internal party conflicts.
The notice, titled “Postponement of the 99th NEC Meeting,” emphasized that a new date will be communicated in due course, in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.
The statement also dismissed any parallel notice or announcement issued by the Deputy National Secretary, describing such communications as illegal and unauthorized.
“All inconveniences resulting from this change of date are regretted. Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards,” the notice concluded.
The development comes amid deepening internal wranglings within the opposition party, notably involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The former Rivers State governor recently announced his withdrawal from all peace agreements initiated to resolve the party’s crisis. Wike, who said he has worked for the survival of the PDP since 1998, accused certain leaders of fueling division within the party.
His withdrawal adds another layer to the party’s ongoing crisis, as speculations mount over possible defections and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly met with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Abuja, further fueling political realignment conversations.
