PDP Governors Hold Crucial Meeting in Zamfara

GUSAU — Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently locked in a closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau.

Although the exact details of the meeting remain undisclosed, sources suggest it may be linked to the mounting leadership crisis within the opposition party and the contentious issue of zoning its 2027 presidential ticket.

The meeting comes just hours before the PDP’s much-anticipated 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) session, scheduled for Monday, where far-reaching decisions on the party’s future are expected.

At the heart of the discussions is the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket. Three options are reportedly on the table: zoning the ticket to the South, throwing it open to all regions, or retaining it in the North.

However, strong voices within the party are pushing for a Southern zoning arrangement, insisting that the region is yet to exhaust its constitutional turn, with four years still outstanding.

The outcome of the Zamfara meeting is expected to set the tone for Monday’s NEC gathering.
