PDP Crisis: Damagum Orders Anyanwu to Resume as National Secretary

ABUJA — The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has directed the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to immediately resume duties at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Damagum issued the directive on Wednesday during a press briefing held at the PDP’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, amid ongoing internal disputes surrounding the party’s leadership structure.

In a significant move, Damagum also announced the cancellation of the planned 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing unresolved constitutional issues.

“The NEC meeting will no longer hold as earlier planned. There are constitutional concerns we must address first,” he said.

To address these concerns, the party will now convene an extended National Caucus meeting on June 30, where crucial decisions are expected to be taken regarding the way forward.

“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary. At the next caucus, we will make decisions that will lead to a proper NEC. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so we are going with an extended caucus meeting on June 30,” Damagum stated.

This development follows a recent meeting between a high-powered PDP delegation and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), aimed at resolving the prolonged controversy surrounding the office of the National Secretary.

The party’s leadership crisis has continued to raise concerns ahead of critical political engagements, with stakeholders urging swift and lawful resolutions to restore stability within the PDP.
