PDP Chieftain Urges Wike’s Expulsion Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Tom FredFish, has called for the immediate expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over alleged consistent acts of sabotage against the party.

Dr. FredFish, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Advocate for Peace and Justice (PAPAJ), made the demand during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, insisting that Wike’s actions have violated key provisions of the PDP Constitution and undermined the unity and progress of the party.

Reacting to Wike’s recent declaration that no one in the PDP has the authority to expel him, FredFish described the statement as arrogant and provocative.

“If Mr. Wike claims he is working for the party, Nigerians deserve to know — is it positive work or negative work?” FredFish queried. “How can a man who openly worked against the PDP in the 2023 presidential election now say he is promoting its interest? His actions clearly contradict that claim.”

He accused Wike of supporting the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a calculated attack on the PDP-led government in Rivers State.

“As far as we’re concerned at PAPAJ, Wike was appointed to dismantle the PDP, and sadly, he is executing that task efficiently,” FredFish added. “No loyal party member should be praised for betraying our collective efforts.”

He further lambasted the former Rivers governor for what he termed consistent verbal attacks on PDP leaders, citing his recent remarks about Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a case in point.

FredFish called on the party’s Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, alongside other notable leaders such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark, to rally the National Working Committee (NWC) to take decisive action.

He urged them to invoke Sections 10(6), 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) to initiate disciplinary procedures that could lead to Wike’s expulsion from the party.

“The time to act is now. Wike’s continued presence in the PDP is a threat to its credibility and cohesion,” he warned.

The call adds to growing internal pressure within the PDP over Wike’s role in national and state politics since his fallout with the party leadership following the 2023 presidential primaries.
