PDP BoT Declares June 30 NEC Meeting Untouchable

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, will hold as planned—dismissing reports of a cancellation as unconstitutional and without merit.

This was made known in a strongly worded statement on Thursday by the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, who faulted what he described as unilateral decisions by the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

Wabara stated that the NEC remains the second-highest decision-making body of the PDP, after the National Convention, and emphasized that its resolutions—particularly the one taken at the 99th NEC meeting on May 27 to hold its next meeting on June 30—are binding on all party members and organs.

He stressed that no individual or organ has the authority to override NEC decisions, stating:

“The 100th NEC Meeting shall proceed as scheduled. All members of NEC are duly advised to disregard any contradictory notice or statement.”

The BoT also condemned the purported reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, calling it a violation of the PDP Constitution, the ruling of the Supreme Court, and existing party resolutions.

According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC), during its 600th meeting, lawfully directed the Deputy National Secretary, Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, to serve as Acting National Secretary—a decision that has neither been overturned by the NWC nor the NEC.

The BoT described Damagum’s move to reverse that decision as “a gross abuse of office,” and a dangerous display of “impunity, unilateralism, and disregard for constitutional procedures.”

Reiterating the BoT’s role as the conscience of the party, Wabara said:

“It is not within the remit or authority of the Acting National Chairman to override a collective decision of the NEC. Such conduct amounts to an affront to the constitutional authority of NEC and the collective will of our Party.”

The BoT urged all party members to uphold the supremacy of the PDP Constitution and resist any actions that could plunge the party into crisis.

“No individual interest is greater than the institutional integrity of the PDP,” the statement concluded, affirming the BoT’s commitment to defending due process, party supremacy, and democratic values.
