PDP BoT Chairman Criticizes Party’s Internal Crises, Calls for Urgent Reforms

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adolphus Wabara, has attributed the party’s ongoing challenges to “self-inflicted” issues, urging swift reforms to restore its stability and credibility.

Speaking at an emergency meeting on Thursday, Wabara expressed disappointment over delays in convening the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings. He warned that these delays risk eroding members’ confidence in the party’s leadership.

“It is with a deep sense of disappointment that I must express the Board’s dismay at the continued shifting by the National Working Committee in convening a National Executive Committee meeting; this delay undermines the trust and confidence of our members,” Wabara stated.

He underscored the NEC’s role as the party’s principal decision-making platform and stressed that adherence to timelines and commitments is non-negotiable. Any further delays, he cautioned, would deepen the PDP’s existing challenges.

As part of efforts to restore harmony, Wabara announced plans to engage FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in January 2025 for renewed dialogue. The BoT, he assured, remains committed to fostering unity and stability within the PDP.

“Our governors are the bedrock of the PDP’s successes across states, and their synergy is vital for our collective progress,” Wabara emphasized, calling for dialogue, collaboration, and shared responsibility among party leaders.

Wabara also addressed Nigeria’s ongoing economic difficulties, criticizing the government’s “poorly implemented economic reforms,” which he argued have exacerbated poverty and eroded public trust.

“Our party must rise to this occasion by offering credible alternatives and amplifying the voices of the suffering masses,” he said, urging the PDP to reaffirm its commitment to fairness, equity, and prosperity for all Nigerians.

In his closing remarks, Wabara extended Christmas greetings to Nigerians and party members, encouraging reflection on the values of love, unity, and sacrifice. He expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to overcome its challenges, provided its leaders and members uphold accountability and constitutional principles.

“The BoT remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the PDP emerges stronger and more united. Together, we can and will overcome these challenges,” he concluded.

The PDP’s Board of Trustees is set to continue its engagements with stakeholders in the coming months to address internal issues and position the party as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
