A political support group under the banner of PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of being the primary instigator behind the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting to Wike’s recent allegations against Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the group described the minister as “the real betrayer” and a destabilizing force within the party.
Wike had in a strongly-worded statement on Sunday announced his withdrawal from all “gentleman agreements” aimed at resolving the PDP’s leadership tussle. He accused Makinde and Mbah of frustrating reconciliation efforts, particularly by reneging on a supposed agreement to retain Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary and to withdraw legal actions related to an alleged emergency rule in Rivers State.
But the PDP Frontiers, in a swift rebuttal, slammed Wike for what they described as a “smear campaign” against committed stakeholders.
National Coordinator of the group, Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, alleged that Wike had long ceased to be loyal to the PDP, accusing him of playing the role of an APC mole and undermining the party from within.
“It is hypocritical for Wike to parade himself as a peace broker while actively fanning the flames of discord,” Ikpegbu said. “His actions and those of his loyalists in certain states are deliberately targeted at weakening the party.”
Ikpegbu called on the former Rivers governor to formally exit the PDP rather than cause further disarray.
“Wike should stop pretending. His spirit left the PDP after he sabotaged the party in 2023. Pulling out of a so-called gentleman agreement is not enough—he needs to pull out of the PDP entirely. He has caused enough discomfort,” he added.
The confrontation marks a deepening of the rift within the PDP as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions and leadership challenges.
