PDP Accuses Tinubu of Plotting One-Party State

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu over what it described as an alleged plot to convert Nigeria into a one-party state.

In a communiqué released at the end of its 99th NEC meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to suppress opposition due to a growing fear of electoral defeat in 2027.

“It is clear that this plot is borne out of APC’s mortal fear of inevitable defeat in 2027 due to its dismal failure in governance,” the communiqué stated.

The PDP NEC also expressed grave concern over what it described as a rapid decline in national security and economic stability under the Tinubu administration. It condemned the rising cases of terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and community attacks, attributing the escalation to what it called the President’s “apparent negligence and abdication” of his constitutional duty to protect citizens.

On the economic front, the opposition party criticized several policy decisions of the Tinubu government, including the fuel subsidy removal, rising electricity tariffs, and multiple tax burdens, which it claimed have led to the collapse of businesses, massive job losses, and increased poverty across the country.

“NEC also laments the worsening economic hardship and extreme poverty occasioned by the ill-advised and ill-implemented policies of the Tinubu administration,” the statement noted.

Furthermore, the PDP NEC alleged that Nigeria has suffered “infrastructural regression” since the current administration assumed office, calling on Nigerians to remain resilient and hold the government accountable.

The meeting concluded with a call for unity among party members and a renewed commitment to strengthening the PDP as a viable alternative to what it termed the APC’s failed leadership.
