Akure, Ondo State — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of deliberately abandoning key infrastructure projects initiated by his late predecessor, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing the move as politically motivated and a betrayal of public trust.
In a statement released by the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, the opposition party alleged that the governor’s refusal to continue with major road and infrastructure projects — including the Ijoka Road, Alagbaka Extension, and the Onyearugbulem Junction Flyover — was an act of vendetta against loyalists of Akeredolu’s administration.
“The governor’s actions suggest a calculated attempt to erase the legacy of his late boss, despite having served as his deputy throughout the administration,” Igbabo said. “It is particularly telling that he has refused to complete the Alagbaka Extension road project located on his own street in Akure.”
The PDP condemned what it called a “display of immaturity and political bitterness,” calling on Aiyedatiwa to rise above personal grievances and embrace a statesmanlike approach to governance.
“Government is a continuum. Abandoning projects simply because they were initiated by your predecessor, especially one you served under, is petty and counterproductive,” the statement added.
The party urged the governor to emulate the biblical David by showing forgiveness and unity, rather than seeking retribution against perceived political opponents.
In a swift response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state dismissed the PDP’s claims as baseless and misleading.
Steve Otaloro, the APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, said it was “nonsensical” to suggest that Aiyedatiwa would sabotage projects he helped conceive and supervise as former deputy governor.
“It is disingenuous for the PDP to spread misinformation at a time when it should be addressing its own internal crisis,” Otaloro said, insisting that the current administration remains committed to delivering on all ongoing and future developmental projects.
The political spat highlights growing tensions in the state as the Aiyedatiwa-led government continues to carve its path following the passing of Governor Akeredolu in late 2023.
