Pastor Adefarasin Under Investigation for Alleged Use of Stun Gun—Lagos CP Speaks

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, has confirmed that the ongoing investigation into Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, will continue despite his release on bail.

Speaking during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme aired on Thursday, the police chief clarified that the pastor is being probed over the alleged use of a stun gun in a threatening manner—an act considered a criminal offence under Nigerian law.

Recall that a viral video recently circulated online, allegedly showing Pastor Adefarasin wielding a firearm during an altercation with a content creator in Lagos. The video sparked widespread reactions and prompted a formal response from the Lagos State Police Command.

Commissioner Jimoh explained that while the object recovered was not a conventional firearm, it was a prohibited item.

“The PPRO has clarified that what was found on him was a stun gun, not a lethal weapon,” Jimoh said. “But it is a prohibited riot control device, and we are investigating its use in this particular incident.”

He stressed that under Nigerian law, using any object—including a replica or non-metallic item like wood—to instill fear or take property constitutes an offence.

“If you point a stun gun at someone and create fear or issue a threat, that is an offence,” Jimoh stated. “The law does not permit it.”

Jimoh also revealed that a warrant of arrest had been prepared in anticipation of Pastor Adefarasin possibly ignoring a police invitation. However, the clergyman voluntarily turned himself in and was interrogated by a team of investigators.

“He responded to our invitation promptly. He was questioned thoroughly, and the investigation continues,” the CP added.

Meanwhile, the individual at whom the stun gun was allegedly pointed—reportedly a content creator—will also be invited to give a formal statement.

“We’ve identified and located the other party. He will be giving his account as part of the ongoing investigation,” Jimoh confirmed.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the findings of the investigation will be made available once the case is concluded.
