PANDEF Youths Give Wike 48-Hour Ultimatum Over Disparaging Remarks on Ijaw Nation

The youth wing of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, demanding a retraction of his recent remarks against the Ijaw nation and the leaders of the South-South geopolitical zone.

Addressing journalists on Saturday, the National Youth President of PANDEF Youth Wing, Doben Donyegha, condemned Wike’s comments, describing them as disrespectful and unacceptable. He particularly criticized the minister for allegedly insulting the late South-South leader and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, even in death.

The controversy stems from Wike’s statement during a media chat on Thursday, where he reportedly labeled PANDEF as “the worst organization anybody can rely on” and called its Board of Trustees members “political merchants.”

Donyegha expressed disappointment that Wike attacked South-South leaders just a day after a PANDEF delegation met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He called on the president to sack the FCT minister, warning that Wike’s continued presence in the cabinet could jeopardize Tinubu’s chances of re-election in the Niger Delta region in 2027.

The PANDEF youth leader also urged the Code of Conduct Bureau to investigate Wike over alleged land-grabbing activities in the FCT.
