The Oyo State Police Command has detained the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, in connection with a tragic stampede that occurred during a children’s carnival on Wednesday.

According to sources, Fasasi was invited to the police station at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and was promptly detained upon arrival. He is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan, and has not been released as of the latest reports.

The stampede, which occurred during an event organized by Naomi Silekunola, estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, resulted in the deaths of at least 32 children. The incident took place at the school grounds during a carnival designed for children.

While the exact cause of the stampede is still under investigation, the police have linked Fasasi’s detention to his role in the event. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy continues as authorities work to uncover the full details.

As of now, the school principal remains in custody, and further updates are awaited on the case.
