Lawmakers in the Osun State House of Assembly have firmly debunked speculations suggesting that some members were planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The rumour, which had gained traction over the alleged intention of nine lawmakers from the Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District to follow their federal counterparts in switching allegiance to the APC, was dismissed during a parliamentary session held at the Assembly complex.
Speaking to journalists, Speaker of the House, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, reaffirmed the unity and loyalty of all 25 PDP lawmakers in the state assembly, declaring their full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“We, the Honourable Members, are men of honour. We are not for sale. We are not moved by noise or pressure. We hold the mandate of our people, and we intend to keep that trust with dignity, loyalty, and a clear conscience,” Egbedun stated.
He further emphasized that the assembly remains undivided and crisis-free. “There is no division in this House. There is no defection. There is no crisis. The rumours flying around are simply rumours. And we are not in the business of chasing shadows,” he added.
Corroborating the speaker’s position, the lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, explained that while federal lawmakers from the Ife/Ijesa zone may have their reasons for leaving the party, their state-level counterparts remain firmly committed to the PDP and to Governor Adeleke’s administration.
Similarly, Hon. Fatunmise Olumide of the Ife-East State Constituency reiterated the House’s collective resolve to ensure Governor Adeleke’s re-election in 2026.
“We are not just passing a vote of confidence on the governor; we are assuring the public of our commitment to ensuring his re-election irrespective of the actions taken by federal lawmakers from our district,” he said.
The Osun PDP lawmakers’ united front signals continued stability within the state legislature and strong backing for the Adeleke-led administration.
