Osun APC Slams Adeleke Over Collapsed Road

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Governor Ademola Adeleke over the collapse of a newly constructed road in the Aduramigba area of Ido-Osun, less than 24 hours after it was completed.

According to reports, the road — which stretches from the Trade Fair Complex through Adeleke Estate to Ido-Osun Junction — was tarred on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, but gave way following heavy rainfall on Thursday, May 15, sparking outrage among residents who staged a protest over the quality of the work.

In a statement released on Sunday, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi described the incident as a clear example of what he called the “incompetence and technical incapacity” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state.

“Osun State is currently undergoing one of its most precarious moments in history. The state’s developmental progress has suffered tremendously under the minimalist and ineffective administration of Governor Adeleke for over two years now,” Olabisi stated.

The opposition party accused the Adeleke administration of widespread mismanagement across various sectors, alleging that governance in the state had been reduced to propaganda and poorly executed projects.

Olabisi further alleged that the road project was executed using laterite instead of the approved stone base, making it vulnerable to collapse after just a single rainfall.

“It is disheartening that such critical infrastructure is subjected to substandard practices. Contracts are being awarded to unqualified individuals, including fertiliser dealers who have no business in road construction,” he claimed.

The APC called for the immediate disclosure of the contractor responsible for the project and demanded a full-scale investigation into the matter. The party also urged the state government to reconstruct the road using proper engineering materials and procedures.

“The consequences of these substandard projects are far too dangerous to ignore,” the party warned, adding that residents should remain vigilant and demand greater accountability.

In response to the public outcry, Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered a comprehensive review of the 4.76-kilometre road project. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Works, and the O-RAMP Project have been dispatched to inspect the site and determine the next course of action.
