Osun APC Orders LG Workers Back to Duty Or Get Fired

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has issued a 72-hour ultimatum for local government workers to resume work, warning that failure to comply by Wednesday could lead to job termination.

In a statement on Monday, Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive asking newly elected council chairmen to avoid local government secretariats, calling it a deceptive move aimed at provoking violence.

The APC accused Governor Adeleke of plotting to use non-state actors, including members of the Amotekun Corps and alleged militants from Oyo State and the Niger Delta, to attack reinstated chairmen and councillors. The party further claimed that the governor’s brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, was unhappy over the public backlash from the recent council elections, which the APC described as a “charade.”

The party also implicated Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Senator Bala Muhammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, in the alleged plan to destabilize the state. According to the APC, thugs were mobilized from Ibadan during the council chairmen’s inauguration, while militants were reportedly brought in under the guise of security personnel to intimidate citizens and opposition members.

The statement urged security agencies to investigate the residence of the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, which it claimed was being used to train cultists and militants.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed its directive for local government workers to stay away from work due to the ongoing political crisis.

In a statement released by its chairman, Christopher Arapasopo, the NLC emphasized that the safety of workers remains a top priority. “We will not allow our members to work in an atmosphere of insecurity,” the statement read.

The NLC also condemned attempts to intimidate workers and reaffirmed its commitment to defending their rights and upholding justice and the rule of law in Osun State.
