Former Abia State Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has advised Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State to reconcile his political differences with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the interest of the state’s development.
Kalu gave the advice on Monday while commissioning the newly constructed Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as well as the renovated Zamfara College of Arts and Science in Gusau, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, Kalu emphasized that his advice was not a call for Governor Lawal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but rather a push for a pragmatic working relationship with the President, who he described as a key national power broker.
“The President is not only my brother; he is my friend. People thought we met when we were governors—no. My children used to live in his house. Mrs. Tinubu brought those girls up because we were living in Abia, but they schooled in Lagos. They lived in Marina, in the President’s house,” Kalu shared.
Recalling his own political history, Kalu noted that while he served as governor under the PDP, he maintained a cordial relationship with Tinubu, who at the time was with the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
“Whatever my political differences with the President were, we have healed up and we are one. I want you to heal your political differences with the President,” he told Lawal.
Kalu stressed the importance of “political economics,” urging the Zamfara governor to prioritize the state’s development by leveraging federal connections to attract more government funding and projects.
“I know you are PDP. I am APC. The President is APC. Do PDP as a party, but do economic development as a Zamfara man so Zamfara can develop,” he concluded.
