The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the official statistical breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that a staggering majority of candidates scored below the 200 mark.

According to the data published on Monday, out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, only 420,415 — approximately 21% — scored above 200. This means more than 1.5 million candidates, accounting for 75% of the total, fell below the 200 threshold. Even more striking is that less than 1% of all candidates managed to score above 300.

JAMB also disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to sit for the exam under a special waiver to showcase their exceptional academic abilities. However, only 467 of them (1.16%) met the defined benchmark for exceptional performance, with further evaluations in three additional stages pending.

In terms of exam integrity, the board revealed that 97 candidates were directly involved in examination infractions, while 2,157 others are currently under investigation for suspected malpractice. An additional 71,701 candidates were marked absent during the exercise.

Candidates experiencing biometric verification issues are still being assessed, with rescheduling on the table for those cleared. Meanwhile, results for blind candidates and those in the JEOG (Joint Examination of the Gifted) category are still being processed.

JAMB added that a press conference to announce the release of individual results and outline procedures for result checking will be held later this week.
