Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is set to officially announce his intention to continue in office after completing the tenure of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in February next year.
He had said in an interview that nobody would want to govern a state for one year.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the governor would make his intention known today during his hosting of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
“During the meeting, Governor Aiyedatiwa will formally inform the APC leaders of his intention to seek the ticket of the party ahead of the coming governorship election,” the statement said.
Besides Aiyedatiwa, other top contenders in the race to secure Ondo APC governorship ticket are former Finance Commissioner, Wale Akinterinwa, business mogul Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Chief Olusola Oke, a former NDDC commissioner, Olugbenga Edema, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mayowa Akinfolarin, ex-President of Nigeria Medical Association, Prof. Dayo Faduliye, Dr.
Paul Akintelure, Chief Matthew Oyerinmade among others.
Critics of Aiyedatiwa have accused him of appointing enemies of his former boss.
They also accused him of dumping the ideals of Akeredolu by shaving Akeredolu’s styled beard he carried in the last three years as deputy governor.
