Ondo APC Accuses Agboola Ajayi of Exploiting Security for Political Gains

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of politicizing security challenges in the state, describing his actions as an attempt to exploit a sensitive issue for political advantage.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, the APC emphasized that insecurity is a national concern, not exclusive to Ondo State, and should not be used as a tool for political attacks.

Otaloro noted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa inherited a complex security landscape and has remained committed to addressing the challenges through strategic interventions.

The APC highlighted various initiatives implemented under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership to strengthen the state’s security architecture. These include enhancing the Amotekun Corps and fostering collaboration between local security agencies and community leaders, which have contributed to reducing crime and restoring peace in affected areas.

“Under his leadership, the Amotekun Corps has been strengthened, and collaboration between local security agencies and community leaders has been prioritized. These efforts have been instrumental in curbing crime rates and restoring peace,” the statement read.

The APC criticized Ajayi for allegedly spreading fear and misinformation, particularly regarding security funding, warning that such statements could inadvertently aid criminals and undermine government efforts.

“As a former Deputy Governor, Mr. Ajayi understands the delicate nature of security matters. His public pronouncements, including the dissemination of unverified figures regarding the state’s security votes, not only undermine the government’s efforts but could also provide critical information to criminals,” the party stated.

The APC urged Ajayi to take a more responsible stance on security issues, advocating for collaboration rather than divisive rhetoric.

“The people of Ondo State deserve leaders who prioritize their safety over political ambition. Instead of playing to the gallery, Mr. Ajayi should focus on cooperative efforts that promote peace and security in the state,” the statement concluded.
