…as Edo Speaker marks second anniversary, Father’s Day celebrated in grand style
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that his administration’s campaign against cultism is a divine assignment, not merely a political initiative.
The governor made this declaration on Sunday during a special thanksgiving mass in honour of the second anniversary of Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku’s tenure as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. The event also coincided with the 2024 celebration of Father’s Day.
Speaking at the mass, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his determination to address cult-related violence in the state is inspired by a higher calling.
“God is here,” he said. “If it’s about muscles or physical strength to fight cultism, I don’t think I would have been chosen. But God has sent me on this mission.”
He further reflected on the significance of Father’s Day, drawing parallels between fatherhood and leadership.
“It takes courage and empathy to be a father,” the governor said. “I urge fathers to keep loving and guiding their children — they are blessings from God.”
Speaker Agbebaku, in his remarks, thanked dignitaries and guests for their presence, especially the governor, whom he commended for attending despite his tight schedule.
He assured the gathering of the legislature’s readiness to work in harmony with the executive to deliver good governance to the people of Edo State.
“Your Excellency, we want to work with you,” Agbebaku stated. “We’re ready to form a synergy that will take Edo to the next level and ensure our people enjoy the best in Nigeria.”
The thanksgiving mass brought together members of the state assembly, clergy, government officials, and well-wishers, highlighting a shared commitment to peace, progress, and purposeful leadership in Edo State.
