Okowa Fires Back at Saraki Over Defection Criticism: ‘He Lacks the Moral Right’

Former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has hit back at ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki over comments made in reaction to his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okowa, who officially joined the APC on Monday, came under fire from Saraki, who urged those no longer committed to the PDP to exit the party and allow loyal members to focus on rebuilding it as a viable opposition.

But speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Okowa questioned Saraki’s moral authority to criticize his move, recalling the former Senate President’s own switch to the APC in the past.

“I didn’t expect somebody like Senator Bukola Saraki to speak about me,” Okowa said. “He also moved to the APC before eventually returning. I don’t think he has the moral right to speak about my defection at all.”

The former Delta State Governor dismissed concerns about his political relevance following the move, urging critics to wait until the 2027 general elections.

He also alluded to the weakness of current opposition efforts, saying: “It doesn’t appear that a vehicle has been confirmed for that coalition, neither does it appear to us, as a state and as a political family, that the coalition was able to build strength within the short period of time available.”
