The Imo State Police Command has denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), who was reportedly abducted on Saturday night around 7 p.m.
According to a family source, unidentified gunmen—dressed in black and numbering up to seven—stormed Igboayaka’s residence at Works Layout, Owerri, in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV before taking him away.
The source added that repeated attempts to reach Igboayaka via his mobile lines immediately after the incident were unsuccessful, as all his numbers were switched off.
“Since this sad news broke, efforts by family members, friends, and associates to contact him have failed, heightening concerns over his safety,” the source stated.
In response to the development, the president of the Igbo National Council, Chilos Godsent, has called on security agencies—particularly the Nigerian Police Force—to launch a thorough investigation and ensure the safe return of the OYC leader.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, issued a statement clarifying that Igboayaka is not in police custody. However, he assured that an investigation has been initiated to determine his whereabouts.
Okoye further urged the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in tracking down those responsible for the abduction.
