The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what it described as the restoration of purpose and credibility in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a statement on Thursday, the National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said the inauguration of the current NDDC Board by President Tinubu earlier this year marked a major turning point in the 25-year history of the commission.
Okwu praised the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, for demonstrating leadership and capacity in driving meaningful development across oil-producing communities, particularly in the South-East.
“The recent achievements showcased during the NDDC’s 25th anniversary are heart-warming,” he stated. “This current Board has rekindled the founding spirit of the Commission and given every oil-producing area a renewed sense of belonging.”
He highlighted the impact of ongoing infrastructure projects in Imo and Abia States, including road construction, water supply initiatives, and street lighting.
“Unlike in the past when there was much talk and little action, we are now seeing visible, tangible results in our communities,” Okwu added.
He further noted that in many South-East oil-producing communities, NDDC projects represent the only tangible presence of the federal government, underscoring the importance of sustaining the Commission’s renewed direction.
Okwu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for assembling a board that reflects competence and inclusiveness, and urged the NDDC leadership not to relent in its development efforts.
“The steady progress has restored hope across oil-producing communities. We encourage the board to stay focused and continue delivering impactful results,” he said.
