Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reaffirmed that Rivers State will produce its next President General, honoring the constitutional rotation of leadership among member states.

At a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Enugu on Wednesday, the organization directed its Secretary General, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, to convene Ime Obi, Ohanaeze’s highest decision-making body. The meeting will establish an electoral committee to oversee the January 2025 elections.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the NEC dismissed rumors of plans to disrupt the zoning arrangement, emphasizing its commitment to constitutional principles.

“The NEC reaffirmed that it is the turn of Rivers State to produce the next President General. The Secretary General, in consultation with South East Governors, Igbo Senators, traditional rulers, town unions, clergy, stakeholders, and Ohanaeze structures, has been mandated to initiate the electoral process,” the statement read.

Preparations for the election are set to commence immediately, with Ohanaeze assuring the Igbo community of a fair and transparent process. The NEC called for unity and understanding from all stakeholders.

The NEC also commended Senator Ben Obi and the National Burial Committee for organizing a successful funeral for the late President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. Acknowledgments were extended to South East Governors, Igbo leaders, and supporters for their role in honoring the late leader.

With plans underway for the election, Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated its dedication to upholding its constitutional values and fostering unity within the Igbo community.
