The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to establish a State Boundary Commission, aimed at addressing persistent land disputes along the Ogun-Oyo border.
Elemide made the call during a fact-finding visit on Tuesday to disputed communities including Eleso-Iya Dudu, Ataakan, and Aiyegbede, where boundary beacons were inspected. He was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, seven other lawmakers, the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Mrs. Folasade Adeyemo, and members of the State’s Technical and Boundary Committees under the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Also present were representatives from the State Commissioner of Police’s office, the State Commandant, and the Amotekun Corps.
The Speaker noted that the establishment of a State Boundary Commission would allow for a structured and continuous approach to land management, historical documentation, and engagement with the National Boundary Commission.
“A dedicated commission will ensure seamless coordination and protect the interests of our communities through continuity beyond political tenures,” Elemide said.
He further urged the state government to intensify infrastructural development in the affected areas, particularly through improved road networks, to strengthen residents’ sense of inclusion and belonging.
Addressing security concerns, the Speaker called for additional security posts and the deployment of more police officers to curb repeated attacks on residents. He assured the communities that the Assembly would follow up with legislative action, including a House Resolution, to ensure the matter receives urgent attention from all relevant authorities.
In her remarks, Odeda Local Government Chairman, Mrs. Folasade Adeyemo, commended the lawmakers for the visit and reiterated the need for the Governor’s swift intervention to restore peace and stability to the region.
