The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, has expressed alarm over the rising wave of attacks on commercial motorcyclists in the state. He disclosed that criminals have adopted a new strategy of disguising as passengers to attack riders, often inflicting fatal harm and stealing their motorcycles and other valuables.
In a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Ogunlowo urged commercial motorcyclists to exercise heightened caution, particularly during their operations. He advised riders to avoid working during odd hours and to refrain from carrying more than one passenger at a time, a measure aimed at reducing the risk of ambush.
The Commissioner highlighted ongoing efforts by the police to tackle the menace, including increased patrols and intelligence-based operations designed to apprehend offenders and ensure the safety of motorcyclists.
He further called on motorcyclists to play an active role in enhancing security by promptly reporting suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement agencies. According to Ogunlowo, fostering collaboration between the public and law enforcement is critical to curbing the rising crimes and ensuring the safety of all road users.
