The Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has provided relief materials to victims of the 2024 fire and flood disasters that devastated communities in Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas. The incidents, which destroyed properties and livelihoods, prompted the government’s intervention to support the affected residents.

Relief items, including roofing sheets, bags of cement, and food supplies, were distributed during a ceremony held in Ifo Local Government Area on Wednesday. The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Oluwafunmilayo Efuwape, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens. Represented by the Director of SEMA, Wale Shonde, Efuwape reassured victims that the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people of Ogun State.

“This initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of victims and compensate for their losses,” said Efuwape. She called on local government executives to ensure the prompt and fair distribution of the relief items, underscoring that the government’s actions reflect its commitment to fulfilling campaign promises.

Kadiri Olanrewaju, Coordinator of the South-West zone of NEMA, urged residents to avoid erecting structures in flood-prone areas, highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness and environmental responsibility. He added that the distributed items were designed to help victims rebuild their lives.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ifo Local Government Area, Kusimo Olalekan, encouraged residents to cooperate with government policies and fulfill their civic responsibilities, including the timely payment of taxes. He described the relief initiative as a testament to the government’s dedication to the welfare of its citizens.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Rasheed Adeyemi and Mrs. Folashade Oricha thanked both the Federal and State Governments for their support, describing the intervention as a vital step towards recovery.

The relief effort underscores the Ogun State Government’s proactive approach to disaster management and its resolve to restore normalcy to affected communities.
