The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the state government to immortalize the late former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, by renaming the Court Junction-Simawa Road and some of her projects in her honor.
The motion, sponsored by Damilare Bello, representing Sagamu I State Constituency, received unanimous support from lawmakers who praised Onanuga’s legacy. The late lawmaker, who represented Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, passed away on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
During the session, the Assembly also paid tribute to other distinguished indigenes of Ogun State who recently passed away. Former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo honored the late Chief Ogooluwa Adio Bankole, a pioneering industrialist who founded the first paint industry in Ifo in 1985.
The Minority Leader, Adeleye Lukman, formally announced the passing of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a veteran political leader and elder statesman known for his role in NADECO and his lifelong advocacy for justice.
The Assembly also mourned Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa, the Alaye of Odogbolu, whose passing was reported by the Odogbolu Constituency representative. Additionally, Majority Leader Yusuf Abiodun paid tribute to Senator Solomon Otegbola, a former Ogun West representative in the Third Republic.
Speaker Oludaisi Elemide led the lawmakers in a minute of silence to honor the deceased, recognizing their contributions to the state and the nation.
