In a major political shakeup ahead of the 2027 general elections, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), a prominent APC stalwart from Delta State, described the move as a “political turning point” and a long-awaited breakthrough for the APC in the South-South state.

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Keyamo celebrated the development with a jubilant message: “Today is the day the Lord has made in Delta State. Finally, finally Delta is APC!”

He credited the defection to the inclusive leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said continues to attract top-tier political figures to the party.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for your leadership that has attracted the best to our Party,” Keyamo stated.

In a show of solidarity, the minister praised Governor Oborevwori for what he called a courageous and visionary decision, saying, “Thank you, my leader and Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for your foresight and courage in taking this bold decision.”

The high-profile defections have sent shockwaves through the Delta political landscape, with analysts predicting a dramatic shift in the state’s power dynamics as the 2027 elections loom on the horizon.
