Obi Slams Tinubu’s Extravagance, Says Presidency Requires Sacrifice, Not Luxury

0

Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the Nigerian presidency demands empathy, modesty, and selfless service—not luxury or detachment from the people.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi condemned what he described as the government’s insensitivity to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, particularly in the face of widespread poverty and underfunded essential services.

“If I become president, I will use public resources efficiently. I cannot justify buying a new jet,” Obi declared. “I don’t need one because I can travel anywhere without it. I will not spend N150 billion on a jet when 80 percent of primary healthcare centres are non-functional.”

Reflecting on his tenure as governor of Anambra State, Obi said he led by example, choosing a life of modesty over opulence.

“For my first four years, I drove a Peugeot 406. I never used bulletproof vehicles,” he said. “No one will try to kill you if you’re doing the right thing. It is when you do wrong that you fear death.”

He added that true leadership comes with a willingness to make sacrifices—even the ultimate one.

“If your people are dying, you should be ready to die. The president should also be ready to die,” Obi stated.
