Abuja – The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has disbursed N25 million in compensation to an injured staff member of the National Assembly, reinforcing its commitment to workers’ welfare under the Employee Compensation Scheme.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of NSITF, Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, presented the cheque on Tuesday to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, who received it on behalf of the beneficiary.
Speaking at the presentation, Faleye emphasized the importance of social insurance for all workers in both the public and private sectors, noting that the scheme serves as a financial safeguard against occupational hazards.
“This N25 million compensation is symbolic of what NSITF stands for—ensuring that insured workers receive the support they deserve in the event of workplace injuries,” he stated.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to prompt compensation payments while urging compliance with insurance contributions to sustain the scheme’s impact.
In response, Barrister Ogunlana commended NSITF’s initiative, describing the payout as a testament to the agency’s dedication to protecting Nigerian workers from financial hardship due to work-related injuries.
“This initiative is not just about financial assistance; it is about restoring hope, alleviating burdens, and reaffirming our solidarity with hardworking Nigerians,” Ogunlana remarked.
He further assured that the National Assembly would provide legislative support to strengthen NSITF’s capacity to fulfill its mandate effectively.
The NSITF’s Employee Compensation Scheme provides financial relief to workers who suffer workplace-related injuries, disabilities, or fatalities, ensuring that affected employees and their families receive necessary support.
