NSCDC Warns Public Against Fake Recruitment Scam on Social Media

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has issued a strong warning to the public against falling victim to a fraudulent recruitment scheme currently circulating on social media platforms.

In an official statement released on Tuesday through its Public Relations Unit, the Command disassociated itself and one of its senior officers from the fake recruitment drive, describing it as a calculated attempt by scammers to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

“We have been intimated of the social media scam by a syndicate group targeting unsuspecting individuals, using the photographs and goodwill of a senior officer in the Corps to smartly swindle people out of their hard-earned money,” the statement read.

The Command emphasized that any legitimate recruitment exercise by the NSCDC would be duly publicized through official communication channels and credible media outlets. It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and disregard any unofficial announcements claiming to represent the Corps.

“The Corps is using this medium to warn the general public to completely dismiss and avoid any such wrong impressions because it is a scam,” the statement continued. “If the Corps is going to recruit, there is a channel and always a general notification on such in the various media.”

The NSCDC further assured that investigations are underway to track down and prosecute those responsible for the fraudulent activity.

“Before this is unraveled, we hereby dissociate the Corps and the senior officer mentioned in the scam alert from such anomalies, and we also warn those behind it to desist from this criminal act,” the statement concluded.

The Command urged Nigerians to remain cautious, stay informed through verified sources, and report any suspicious activities to security authorities.
