NSCDC Uncovers Illegal Crude Oil Dumps in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered five illegal crude oil dump sites in the Jahi/Katampe axis of Abuja, in a major crackdown on oil theft and illegal distribution.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the NSCDC Spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, seven suspects were arrested in connection with the illicit operations. The raid was carried out by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS), which also recovered multiple vehicles and equipment used in the illegal trade.

Among the impounded items were a white truck with three compartments containing 45,000 litres of suspected stolen Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), four Mercedes-Benz short peddler trucks, several other vehicles, pumping machines, various sizes of hoses, a Mikano generator, and approximately 23 surface metallic tanks—some of which were filled with large volumes of AGO.

The NSCDC revealed that the recovered white truck had an unverifiable waybill and was discovered at one of the illegal dump sites.

“This successful operation underscores the commitment of the Corps to clamp down on oil theft and economic sabotage,” the statement read. “The suspects will be prosecuted to serve as a strong deterrent to others involved in similar criminal activities.”

The agency reaffirmed its resolve to continue intelligence-led operations to dismantle crude oil theft networks across Nigeria.
